Zone is the Mobian term for other dimensions and universes besides the Prime Zone. Travel between these worlds, while uncommon, have become possible through various means, such as the Genesis Portals.
The term Zone can also refer to various areas on Sonic's World itself, such as the Green Hill Zone.
Description[]
Universes[]
Sonic the Hedgehog and some of his allies have had adventures in the Sol Zone, an alternate universe home to Blaze the Cat, Marine the Raccoon, and various others. (VG: SRu, SRuA, SU: #55, #56, #57, #58, StH: #251)
One particular encounter occurred between Dr. Eggman and Dr. Albert W. Wily following a recently failed conquest. This lead to the two scientists teaming together to defeat their most hated adversaries from their respective worlds. This attempt, however, was prevented by the efforts of Sonic and Mega Man. (VG: SG, MM: #24)
Another threat that posed to destroy the multiverse arose in the form of Sigma, a former Reploid from the future, who traveled to Eggman's base on the Lost Hex. Forcing Dr. Eggman and an abducted Dr. Wily to build himself a body to occupy, Sigma usurped command of the Egg Fleet and proceeded to merge both Sonic's and Mega Man's universes together though Unity Engines in an effort to feed off of their combined energies. This attempt would also be prevented by another partnership between Sonic and Mega Man, with additional help from Sticks the Badger and Mega Man X. (SU: #76, #77; SB: #8, #9, StH: #273; MM: #50)
Genesis Portals are gateways which exist between alternate realities, allowing visitors to travel through the dimensional barriers. They were revealed to be the results of the original multiverse collapsing upon itself and rebooting; tearing holes in the fabric of spacetime. (SCO: #6, SU: #75, SSSM: #14)
Dimensions[]
When King Acorn's royal adviser, Dr. Eggman, betrayed him and took over Mobotropolis, the dictator banished the overthrown King into the Special Zone along with the royal wizard, Naugus. The Knothole Freedom Fighters later managed to rescue King Acorn from this zone after taking back Mobotropolis. (FCBD: #8; StH: #288)
During their brief partnership, both Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily created the Skull Egg Zone, a pocket dimension that acted as a bridge between their respective universes, allowing the two to meet and work on their plans to take over both of their worlds. (MM: #24, SU: #51)
Regions[]
- For regional zones, see Sonic's World for a complete list.
The world's surface-and that of Angel Island-is also divided into various Zones, though there are areas that are not designated as such. Examples of the former include Westside Island's Wood Zone, home to Knothole; Pumpkin Hill Zone; and Angel Island's Launch Base Zone. (StH: #253, SU: #63)
