Universalamander was once a mobini salamander until he was roboticized by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. However, a freak accident turned him into a powerful and evil robot bent on conquest of all of Mobius. His rampage was brought to halt during a confrontation with Sonic though, where he got shrunk down to a harmless size. He later got a second chance at defeating the Knothole Freedom Fighters, but met defeat again when he got shrunk down to microscopic size.

History[]

Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]

Originally a tiny mobini salamander, the creature got captured by the Bot Brigade and brought to Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Although disappointed by the salamander's size, he nonetheless decided to keep the vow he made about turning the next animal he received into a killer robot for defeating Sonic through roboticization. However, Buzzbomber accidentally turned the size control knob for the salamander's Roboticizer, causing the machine to overload and turn the salamander into a gigantic robot. Emerging with a free will to boot, the salamander named himself "Universalamander" and decided to conquer Mobius for himself. As his rampage reached the Great Forest, Universalamander was confronted by Sonic, whom he nearly managed to eat had Sonic not stirred up the former's insides. Furious, Universalamander began chasing after Sonic, who managed to get away before returning as Super Sonic. With the powers of his Super Form, Sonic got past Universalamander. When the robot then caught up to him at the entrance to Knothole Village, Universalamander got shrunk down to the size of an insect by Super Sonic with a Reduce/Enlarge Component before the former could crush the village. He was subsequently scared off by Super Sonic. (StH: #4)

While going on a motivational speaking tour through Mobius, Robotnik encountered the still-shrunken Universalamander, who now wanted to work for the doctor and get another chance at defeating the Freedom Fighters. Robotnik turned Universalamander back to his gigantic size, and also made so it that any energy absorbed by him would be reversed, therefore making it so that any reducer used on him would make him even larger. Universalamander soon after attacked the Freedom Fighters and threw Sonic all the way into a desert. Rotor tried to use the Reducer/Enlarger component to shrink him again, but it only made him larger. Universalamander then kicked the Freedom Fighters around, destroying the unit in the process. While his teammates all distracted Universalamander, Rotor returned with Ultra Mega Enlarger. He then used it on Universalamander, causing him to shrink thanks to the energy-reversing process. However, Universalamander ended up shrinking down to microscopic size. (SA: #5)

Appearance[]

As a mobini, Universalamander resembled a tiny green salamander. Following his roboticization though, he was turned into a gigantic, mobian-looking green salamander. In that form, he had armor in various places, slit-like red eyes with black sclerae, sharp white teeth, and a flat tail.

Personallity[]

As a mobini, Universalamander was a harmless, if not docile creature. After becoming the Universalamander however, he became a malevolent and destructive entity hungry for power and domination over Mobius. He was also very prideful, becoming infuriated when Sonic forced him to burp him out of his mouth. (StH: #4)

Abilities[]

Universalamander was the strongest robot ever. Dr. Ivo Robotnik went as far as to estimate that he could destroy the entire planet of Mobius on his own. Thanks to his enormous size, Universalamander has incredible strength, able to pick up trees and throw people large distances away. (StH: #4)

Background Information[]

  • The canocity of the "lost story" in Sonic Archives Vol. 5 has been questioned, as it features an alternate origin for NICOLE. However, head writer, Ian Flynn, has confirmed that the story is canon "to a point" and that Universalamander is currently trapped at molecular size. Only Nicole's origin in the story fails to fit with the rest of the series.
