The Time Eater was a mysterious monster with the ability to warp time.
History[]
Dr. Eggman discovered the Time Eater following one of his various defeats at the hands of Sonic the Hedgehog, and set out to use it to achieve an ultimate victory over his heroic foe. However, he determined that in order to upgrade it with technology, he required the aid of another genius, and used the Time Eater's powers to recruit a past version of himself. Together, the pair employed the Time Eater to scatter Sonic and his various allies across time and space, but were defeated when Sonic joined forces with his own past self, both of them becoming Super Sonic to defeat the Time Eater. (VG: SG)
The Time Eater had also existed at one point on Sonic's World after the dimension had its timeline altered by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily's Genesis Wave. However, the Time Eater was stopped by Sonic at some point in this new reality's past. Dr. Light later brought up the Time Eater to Eggman in an attempt to state Eggman's experiences about tampering with forces that he could not control. Background Information[]
- According to Ian Flynn on the Bumbleking forums, he believes that SEGA intended to imply that the Time Eater was leftover matter of Mephiles. As such, he stated that the Time Eater is an alternate state of Mephiles that "slipped through a crack in time". This could explain its purple aura and similar ability to travel through time. However, this has yet to be confirmed in-universe or by any material produced by Sega.
