Thorny is a Mobian Needle Bird, and one of the last of his kind to not have been roboticized. Despite being a mobini, he is also a honorary Knothole Freedom Fighter.
History[]
Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]
One of the last non-roboticized Mobian Needle Birds, Thorny was found in the Great Forest by Sonic when he fell on his head with an injured wing. After being fed some berries from a Needle Berry Bush, Sonic took Thorny to Freedom HQ to give to Sally as a birthday gift, only for her to demand that he was removed, since he could be a part of a Robotnik scheme. This was only made worse when Thorny ate Sally's birthday cake. After being brought to a tree by Sonic though, who quickly left to save Sally from a trap, Thorny, now able to fly, swooped in and carried Sonic away from a Robot Tree's grasp. Together, the two found Sally and saved her from another Robot Tree. When Dr. Robotnik then showed up and held Sonic and Sally at gunpoint, Thorny laid an egg on Robotnik and drove him off with multiple needles. Thorny was thus named an honorary Knothole Freedom Fighter by Sonic and Sally. (StH: #9)
Appearance[]
Thorny is an avian mobini resembling a chicken/duck with purple feathers, an orange bill, black eyes, orange legs with two-toed feet, and thin, needle-like spines all over his body.
Personality[]
Thorny, while friendly and attached to his friends, is not a domesticated mobini. As such, he is prone to poor manners, such as eating meals without permission. He is especially fond of berries from Needle Berry Bushes. He is also brave and loyal, namely by coming to the aid of his friends and defending them from danger. (StH: #9)
Abilities[]
Thorny is capable of flight and is surprisingly strong for his size, being able to carry an average-sized mobian through the air without much trouble. He is also able to launch the spines around his body at targets. (StH: #9)
Background Information[]
- Although Thorny is a Knothole Freedom Fighter, the character never made an appearance again outside of flashbacks following his debut.
