Pseudo-Sonic is a Badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. The precursor to the Metal Sonic Series, Pseudo-Sonic was Robotnik's first robotic doppelganger of Sonic the Hedgehog. However, he was destroyed during his first mission. Although eventually rebuilt, he was left behind on the Island of Misfit Badniks where he and the Classic Badniks would plan an uprising, only to ultimately fail.
History[]
Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]
Pseudo-Sonic was made by Dr. Ivo Robotnik to be his latest "ultimate creation", and was designed using everything Robotnik knew about Sonic. However, Pseudo-Sonic was a pain to test; not only was he showing a lack of respect despite his loyalty to Robotnik, but he would showcase his abilities by taking the doctor through a wall and throwing him off a cliff. Pseudo-Sonic would subsequently crisscross through the Great Forest until he found Antoine, who mistook him for the real Sonic and inadvertently led him to Knothole Village. Inside Freedom HQ, Pseudo-Sonic met the rest of the Knothole Freedom Fighters and tried telling Robotnik the coordinates for Knothole via radio, only to be short-circuited by Tails' trick with static electricity and blow up. Pseudo-Sonic's still active remains were then analyzed by Rotor before they were tossed in the garbage. (StH: #9)
Misfit Badnik Island[]
Years later, Sonic learned of an Island of Misfit Badniks, and decided to investigate. He found almost a dozen of his old foes, all of whom he had fought before except one. Pseudo-Sonic explained that he had hoped to have a fight with Sonic, but last time, Sonic was MIA due to an unpleasant experience with Poison Sumac flowers. When they duked it out, a Crabmeat unit noted that the two were evenly matched. A bighorn challenge seemed prudent. With Orbinaut acting as a judge, Sonic and Pseudo rammed each other at full speed. The vibration from the impact sunk the island, while the badniks faked their deaths. Sonic escaped with only a headache, but Pseudo had fallen apart. The Badniks promised to repair him and get revenge on Sonic. (StH: #170)
A Burrobot unit noted that Pseudo has a Ratio-Redoubler, and decided to use it to enlarge Pseudo-Sonic. They planned to use a the giant Pseudo-Sonic as a means of revenge, but had a setback when the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters attacked. Burrobot had to finish construction himself, while Caterkiller and Ballhog led the other badniks to stop the intruders. When Pseudo-Sonic awakened, he knocked away everyone, Burrobot included, and declared himself the biggest thing on Mobius. Then Big Fluke sat on Pseudo, and crushed him, the badniks and the island into a cube. (StH: #185)
Appearance[]
Modeled with high accuracy off his template, Pesudo-Sonic resembled a blue mobian hedgehog with peach coloring on his arms, front torso, and muzzle. He also had feet resembling Sonic's Sneakers, albeit with spikes on the soles, glove-like hands with sharp fingers, a pointy and broad black nose, and sharp teeth. However, his design was a lot more bulky in comparison to the original Sonic's and his life-like appearance was still obviously mechanical. He originally had black eyes as well, but they were later depicted as green.
Personality[]
While loyal to Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Pseudo-Sonic was noticeably rude and impetuous, often referring to the doctor by less-than-flattering titles and forcefully taking him along on painful demonstrations of his powers, just to showcase his skills, not to mention twist the words of the doctor's orders. He was also rather aggressive, impatient, threatening, and would stand by his own vocations of readiness when Robotnik wanted to iron out the bugs in his design. He was also quite arrogant and proud to boot. (StH: #9)
Abilities[]
Described as having many powers, Pseudo-Sonic possessed super speed equal to Sonic's and had enough control over it to stop on a dime while running at full speed. He also had super strength, enough smash through a brick wall and carry Dr. Ivo Robotnik around with ease. He also came equipped with his own radio transmitter. (StH: #9)
Background Information[]
- Pseudo-Sonic has no direct game counterpart. Outside of the comics, his only appearance was in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series in which he was built by Dr. Robotnik to frame Sonic for numerous acts of hooliganism. Furthermore, Pseudo-Sonic was not a sentient Badnik in the television series, but instead a mindless mech piloted by a rat named Lawrence.
- Pseudo-Sonic has the fourth longest "non-appearance gap" in the Archie comic series at 161 issues (Sonic the Hedgehog #9-#170.
- Despite being the first robotic duplicate of Sonic from the Metal Sonic Series in the comics, he was not the first to be encountered by Sonic. Instead, Metal Sonic v1.0 holds the honor of being the firs Metal Sonic Series robot to meet Sonic.
- Pseudo-Sonic was the last Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog character to debut in the comics proper until the Archie version of Breezie the Hedgehog was introduced about twenty years later.
