Jaws, also known as Piranha-bot, is a shark-based classic badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik for underwater purposes until he was deemed obsolete and replaced by more effective robots.
History[]
Early Battles[]
In 3535, Jaws would carry out a roboticization operation on underwater Mobinis in the Ol' Swimmin' Hole with a waterproof roboticizer. During one of Sonic's fishing trips however, Jaws ate Sonic's finishing pole and the dock when the hedgehog caught him, forcing Sonic into the water. When Sonic tried pursuing Jaws, he got caught in a net, and Jaws tried to load Sonic into the robotcizer, only for to Sonic shred the net and wasting his air. As Jaws watched Sonic slowly drown though, Tails and Rotor arrived and torpedoed him with the Bathysphere. Heavily damaged, Jaws fled while Sonic recovered and trashed the roboticizer, but his tail rotor had been damaged, so he spent some time crashing into undersea stalagmites. Later, a repaired Jaws returned to the Ol' Swimmin' Hole to guard the Freedom Emeralds that had been hidden underwater, only to get into a fight with Sonic and Tails. This fight ended when Jaws attacked a crude sketch of Sonic and Tails, causing him to crash into a rock wall, incapacitated, while Sonic and Tails made it off with the Freedom Emerald. (OSM: #1, #2)
He was later seen working with Coconuts on an undersea bank heist, with predictable results. He later ruined Robotnik's impersonation of The Wizard of Oz and warned Robotnik about what would happen if the law learned that Robotnik had stolen some fan mail meant for Sonic-Grams. Curiously, Jaws seemed much less malevolent in this incarnation, finding Amy Rose-whom he saw in a photo-cute and expressing horror at the idea that Robotnik would send Metal Sonic to capture her. His various failures against the Freedom Fighters also resulted in his being replaced as Robotnik's enforcer in the Mobian Ocean by Octobot. (StH: #16, #25, STT)
Later Fights[]
He was later seen on the Island of Misfit Badniks, unable to participate in the battle with Sonic, s he could not do much inside a fishbowl. He just watched as Sonic and Pseudo Sonic sunk the island. When the Badniks tried to enlarge Pseudo Sonic, and the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters interferes, Jaws joined the last wave of badniks led by Caterkiller in battle. He tried unsuccessfully to eat P.B. Jellyfish, as Pseudo Sonic woke up and knocked everyone away. Big Fluke smahed Pseudo Sonic and all badniks, Jaws included, into a cube, along with the island. Appearance[]
Jaws is a shark-based Badnik. He has a red body with a large mouth with sharp white teeth, two eyestalks with a black eye on each of them, and a propeller for a caudal fin.
Personality[]
As a classic badnik, Jaws possesses a limited A.I. Described as one of Dr. Ivo Robotnik's baddest badniks, Jaws is tactical, yet immensely malevolent, taking great joy in watching the suffering of his enemies. He was also utterly loyal to Dr. Ivo Robotnik, but prone to rash actions. (OSM: #1, #2, CSE)
While confined to a fishbowl, he demonstrated a gentler, almost kind personality, expressing shock at Robotnik's villainous activities.
Abilities[]
Jaws has jaws powerful enough to tear through large amounts of wood within seconds, and can move at great speed underwater. Unsurprisingly though, he is useless out of the water, requiring the use of a fishbowl to appear on land. (OSM: #1)
Background Information[]
- Jaws is based on the badnik (known as "Puku-puku" in Japan) that first appeared in the Labyrinth Zone in the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Genesis console.
- Curiously, Jaws had a color scheme that resembled what the Chopper badniks from the games had.
