Great Oak Slide

The Great Oak Slide is a secret passage into Freedom HQ from the Great Forest. It has been utilized a number of time by the Knothole Freedom Fighters, especially during the First Robotnik War.

History[]

Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]

Upon returning from one of his outings, Sonic used the Great Oak Slide in the Great Forest to enter Freedom HQ. Sonic and Tails later tried to get to Antoine through the Great Oak Slide, only for Antoine to emerge from the entrance to the Great Oak Slide and ram into them when the duo tried using it. When Sonic later had to dispose of a self-destructing robot from Robotnik and save Freedom HQ, he used the Great Oak Slide in reverse as a shortcut into the open where the robot could explode safely. The Great Oak Slide was soon after used by Sonic and Sally to check on Antoine in the Great Forest. Finding him entangled in Krudzu weeds, the pair rescued him and took him back to Freedom HQ through the Great Oak Slide. Soon after, Sonic took Rotor through the Great Oak Slide on their way to southern Northamer. Sonic later tried entering the Great Forest via the Great Oak Slide to combat a giant Burrobot, but Bunnie kept him from emerging from it until said Badnik had rolled over the slide's stump entrance. Not long after, Sonic used the Great Oak Slide as a shortcut to intercept Universalamander. Later, while dealing with the Termite-Nator, Sonic used the Great Oak Slide as a shortcut between Freedom HQ and the Great Forest as he gathered the means to neutralize the robotic bug. Antoine would later guard the Great Oak Slide's entrance while it was utilized by Sonic. When he later mistook Pseudo-Sonic for the real Sonic, Antoine led the Badnik into Freedom HQ through the Great Oak Slide. After Pseudo-Sonic got destroyed, Rotor eventually took its remains out with thrash through the Great Oak Slide, during which he met up with Sonic and Bunnie, who returned to Freedom HQ through the Great Oak Slide with him. Design[]

The Great Oak Slide is one of two ways to enter Freedom HQ. Its entrance is through the top of an old tree stump, whose top can be opened by pulling a specific vine hanging from a nearby tree. From there, it leads through a speedy tube that loops, spirals around, and zig-zags through the underground until it deposits the user on a hay bale next to the HQ's kitchen. (OSM: #0, StH: #178)

Background Information[]

The Great Oak Slide is based on the unnamed slide into Knothole Village that appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog television series.
Freedom Fighters are obligated to wash all limbs before using the Great Oak Slide. (StH: #9)
