Freedom HQ.
Freedom HQ was the headquarters, primary base of operations and "home-away-from-home" for the Knothole Freedom Fighters and Chaotix in the First and Second Robotnik Wars against Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and later Dr. Eggman.
Freedom HQ originally served as the hideout for the Knothole Freedom Fighters, but later served as vanguard outpost for Knothole Village. It currently serves as a decoy to draw Dr. Eggman's wrath away from New Mobotropolis.
History[]
Origin[]
Originally, Freedom HQ was an old limestone cavern in Knothole Village, but this changed when the first members of the Knothole Freedom Fighters, following the apparent deaths of the Original Freedom Fighters, gathered together to fight in their place.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]
One day, Sonic returned to Freedom HQ when Antoine reported to the Knothole Freedom Fighters that a water leak in the HQ was threatening to flush them out of hiding. Fortunately, the group found the source of the leak and fixed it. Later, Sonic, Tails, and Antoine returned to Freedom HQ after saving Sally from being captured by Dr. Ivo Robotnik, only to learn that Sally had arranged her capture for the purpose of getting the secret to reversing roboticization. However, by rescuing her, Sally's plan had been ruined. (OSM: #0, #1)
About a month later, Sally prepared to be coronated with the Magic Crown of the Acorn Kings in the Freedom HQ. However, she, Sonic, and Antoine discovered that the crown's Freedom Emeralds had been stolen. Using the Freedom HQ's smoke detectors and sprinkler system, Sonic exposed the thief as a Robotnik robot spy in the Royal Guard who had handed the emeralds over to Robotnik. Before the spy could self-detonate and take Freedom HQ with it though, Sonic took it out into the open. After that, the Knothole Freedom Fighters began tracking down the Freedom Emeralds. Thanks to the overall efforts of Sonic, the Freedom Emeralds were soon brought back to Freedom HQ where they restored to their crown for Sally to wear. (OSM: #2)
Later, Sonic and Sally had a discussion in Freedom HQ that drove Antoine to leave to get some flowers for Sally, only for him to get entangled in the rapidly-spreading Krudzu in the Great Forest. After rescuing Antoine, Sonic and Sally brought him back to Freedom HQ where Rotor got him untangled from the vines. When Tails watered the vines, however, they short-circuited, leading to the Knothole Freedom Fighters to realize that the plant was made by Robotnik. With rainfall coming in soon after, the group stayed in Freedom HQ while the weather destroyed the Krudzu plants throughout the Great Forest. Later, Sonic was called into Freedom HQ to fold a map when he learned that Robotnik was about to hold a speech in Casino Night Zone. After leaving the HQ to deal with Robotnik and returning victoriously, Sonic's team had another menial task ready for him. (StH: #1)
Some time afterward, Sonic returned to Freedom HQ to report that Robotnik had seemingly acquired a nuclear device. After the Knothole Freedom Fighters stole the device, they brought it back to Freedom HQ, where thy discovered during their attempt to disarm it that it was just a pesticide. Not long after, Sonic met up with Rotor and Sally in Freedom HQ to discuss Robotnik's operations in southern Mobius, prompting Sonic to head there with Rotor. The pair soon after returned with Bunnie Rabbot, who showed willingness to join the Freedom Fighters and become Sally's hairdresser. Immediately after though, Antoine reported the arrival of a giant Burrobot in the Great Forest. After Sonic and Bunnie took care of the Badnik, the latter was made an official Knothole Freedom Fighter in the HQ. Later, the Knothole Freedom Fighters detected Universalamander from Freedom HQ, prompting Sonic to head out to intercept him. The Freedom Fighters would subsequently observe Sonic and Universalamander's battle on the Great Forest Monitor, during which Sonic dropped by to retrieve a Reduce/Enlarge Component that he used to stop Universalamander. Afterward, the team had a victory feast in Freedom HQ. (StH: #3, #4)
Soon after, Sonic came to Freedom HQ and convinced his team to take part in the Robotropolis Olympic Games. Not long after, Sonic and Tails helped Sally with a failed batch of pancake batter in Freedom HQ while Rotor ordered an ant farm. When Rotor's ant farm arrived in Freedom HQ, however, all he got was a Termite-Nator that threatened to eat the entire Great Forest. While the heroes kept the Termite-Nator busy though, Sonic figured out that he could incapacitate it with Sally's pancake batter, which he used to clamp its mouth shut. Rotor then discovered that the Termite-Nator was a robot made by Robotnik, and so rewired it to eat metal and sent it back to Robotropolis. Later, the Knothole Freedom Fighters tried an all-out attack on Robotnik, Inc., only to discover its operations had been moved to the Veg-O-Fortress. Sonic tried compromising that facility, but was ultimately unsuccessful. Tails soon after set up a seesaw in Freedom HQ, which got him flung into the ceiling. However, this unveiled a treasure map leading to Charles' most important treasure, which led the Knothole Freedom Fighters out on a mission to claim it. The Knothole Freedom Fighters later got ready for the Fright Night Party in Freedom HQ. Sally, however, would leave the HQ unchaperoned to find a stick to complement her costume. (StH: #5, #6, #7)
After following Sonic's battle with the Super-Powered 'Bots on their R.B.V., the Knothole Freedom Fighters would celebrate Sonic's victory over the robots in Freedom HQ. Not long after, the Knothole Freedom Fighters witnessed Pseudo-Sonic's arrival in Freedom HQ due to a mistake made by Antoine. Fortunately, Tails destroyed the robot before he could tell Robotnik the location of Knothole Village. Afterward, Rotor would analyze Pseudo-Sonic's remains his shop until Betty Butterfly arrived and told the group that Sonic was in trouble. Later, the Knothole Freedom Fighters would celebrate Sally's birthday in Freedom HQ until Sonic arrived with a Mobian Needle Bird named Thorny, who ate Sally's birthday cake. After Sally then ordered Sonic return Thorny to the wild, she would leave Freedom HQ to get berries for a new cake. (StH: #8, #9)
The Eggman Empire and the Return of Enerjak[]
The base was initially destroyed and most of its occupants captured by Snively's diversionary attack on the base while Dr. Eggman and the newly-finished Egg Fleet finished with destroying Knothole. However, following the rescue of its citizenry by the five remaining base occupants (Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Miles Prower, Amy Rose and NICOLE) and founding of New Mobotropolis, the base was re-built. (StH: #175, #176, #177, #185)
The Dark Egg Legion and King Scourge[]
A while after, the Suppression Squad used some stolen Globe Posts to open a doorway from Moebius to the Star Posts in Freedom HQ. They proceeded to start their take over of Mobius Prime with the Freedom HQ. For a short time Freedom HQ was under the control of the Suppression Squad, but eventually they were sent back home and the base was reclaimed. (StH: #189, #190, #196)
Revenge of the Iron Dominion[]

Specifications[]

The base was built around the limestone cavern and directly into the cavern's rock wall for protection. It was also given a domed top for more protection and to house its solar arrays that supply the base with power. NICOLE can interface with the computer systems within, sometimes maintaining a link between the HQ and New Mobotropolis so that she can keep track of events in both. The rooms are also equipped with smoke detectors installed by Rotor and a sprinkler system. (OSM: #2)
There are only two entrances to the base: the cliff-side-built front entrance, and the Great Oak Slide.
