The Freedom Emeralds are a set of four mystical emeralds that sit on the Magic Crown of the Acorn Kings. When wielded, their magic enables them to keep the tyranny of Dr. Ivo Robotnik at bay.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]
Having sit on the Magic Crown of the Acorn Kings for an unknown period of time, the Freedom Emeralds were eventually stolen by a robotic Robotnik spy who had infiltrated the Royal Guard guarding the crown. After the emeralds were handed over to Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the doctor, in an attempt to keep them from interfering with his plans, began scattering them across Mobius by having his Badniks take them to hiding places in the air, on land, in the sea, and underground where they would guard them. The first Freedom Emerald was retrieved from the Robotnik Blimp in the sky by Sonic and Antoine. After that, Sonic and Tails got the second emerald from the Ol' Fishin' Hole where it was guarded by Jaws. The third Freedom Emerald was soon after snatched from a SWATbot by Sonic, who got lured underground, where he got the final emerald from Burrobot. The Freedom Emeralds were subsequently returned to Freedom HQ where Rotor restored the emeralds to their crown. (OSM: #2)

Said to possess awesome power, the Freedom Emeralds are magical gems whose mystical energies keeps Dr. Ivo Robotnik's tyranny at bay when they are together, notably by destroying his machines and restoring Mobius' beauty.
