Cobar was an Echidna scientist, and member of the Dark Legion on Light Mobius. While trying to save the original timeline, he helped in inadvertently bringing about the second altered one.

Mobius: 25 Years Later (Unaltered)[]

At some point, through unknown means, Cobar and Rotor (a fellow scientist) discovered that there was damage to the temporal space-time continuum that, if left unrepaired, could cause Mobius to cease to exist. After Rotor revealed this to Knuckles the Echidna, and later Sonic the Hedgehog and Sally Acorn, a solution was reached: Sonic and Knuckles would use Eggman's final invention before his demise, the Tachyon Displacement Chamber, to go back in time to repair the damage done to the timeline. Unfortunately, this forever changed the status quo of the timeline. What's more, Rutan overheard Rotor's conversation with Knuckles, and later told his mother, Lien-Da, who confronted the two scientists and had them make her a device that would allow her to remember the unaltered timeline should something go wrong. (StH: #131, #141, #144)

Mobius: 25 Years Later (Altered)[]

Due to his Chaos Powers, the new king, Shadow the Hedgehog, knew full well that the timeline had been changed, and had Rotor and Cobar arrested. While Rotor was tortured, Cobar suffered a much worse fate, being tortured to death by Shadow himself. (StH: #166)

Background Information[]

  • Cobar was confirmed to be in a relationship with Rotor (Light Mobius) by Ken Penders' on his message board. With regards to how the relationship formed, it was said: The relationship started professionally before turning personal. Cobar was impressed with Rotor's technical abilities, and vice versa. Both Echidna and Mobian technologies started making great advances when the two continued working together after first joining forces for a specific mission. Now what that mission is, we don't know, because it was never planned out conceptually. It's just a basic outline of how they met. (1) (2)
    • In response to this, Ian Flynn confirmed he likely would have kept Cobar alive, had he known in advance of the above revelation; as there were precious few clues to it in-comic, he was unaware of the relationship and chose to kill off Cobar as a redundant clone of Rotor. However, in light of the revelation, he considers Cobar's death to be more poignant to Rotor's character growth.
