Summary[]

Story One[]

"Triple Trouble" - Part One

In his office in Robotropolis, Dr. Ivo Robotnik is throwing darts at a picture of Sonic the Hedgehog in the middle of the dartboard, fuming that the hedgehog will never foil his lasest plot. Crabmeat conforts Robotnik and tells him that he hopes that he will let him take Sonic out. However, Robotnik refuses to let Crabmeat fight Sonic, reminding him of his past failures to defeat the hedgehog. However, the doctor has one important role that he can play, much to Crabmeat's joy. However, Robotnik then reveals that the role is being the first victim of his new Badnik: Coconuts. Coconuts proceeds to throw an explosive coconut at Crabmeat, blowing him to pieces. Praising Coconuts for his performance, Robotnik sends him out to slaughter Sonic, which Coconuts notes will be a piece of cake.

Later, Sonic is out for a run with Tails, encouraging the fox cub to keep up with him. Suddenly though, they are brought to a halt when a hole suddenly blows up in-between them. As the duo examine the hole, Sonic hears someone call, and sees a coconut coming flying at them. Sonic pushes Tails to safety, and the both of them spot Coconuts in a palm tree above them, who continues to take shots at them with his explosive coconuts. As Coconuts continues to taunt and tease them, an angry Tails wants to chase after him. Sonic, however, holds him back, and suggests playing a game from his childhood: "Monkey in the Middle".

Soon after, Coconuts is on a lookout for Sonic, only to be shaken down from his palm tree by Sonic himself and landing on the ground. Angry, Coconuts throws one of his explosive coconuts at Tails, only for Tails to use his Tailspin to knock the bomb over Coconuts' head and over to Sonic, who proceeds to knock the bomb back at Tails with a Sonic Swirl. They proceed with this repeatedly, knocking the bomb back and forth like a volleyball until an annoyed Coconuts asks for it back. In response, Sonic knocks the bomb at Coconuts...

A while later, back in Robotnik's headquarters, a SWATbot arrives with a package for Robotnik himself. Eagerly opening the package, Robotnik discovers, much to his horror, that the package contains the remains of Coconuts, who has been blown to pieces. Coconuts' head begs for another chance to get Sonic, but is denied by two others, who says that it is their turn now.

"Triple Trouble" - Part Two

Smashing an action figure of Sonic with his fist, Robotnik demands that Sonic must be destroyed, with the shadowed figures believing themselves to be the Badniks to do it, which are revealed to be Scratch, a chicken robot and leader of the Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad and his "non-identical twin", Grounder. Agreeing that they are the Badniks for the task, Robotnik tells them that they will succeed in their goal and sends them out, although not before reminding them that he will remain in constant communication with them. As Scratch and Grounder walk out though, a phone rings inside Grounder. Scratch answers it and tells them not to bother them on their mission for Robotnik. However, the caller is revealed to be Robotnik himself, who calls to reemphasize to them of the price they will pay if they fail him, which he demonstrates by strangling Scratch across comic panels.

Heading to the Great Forest, Scratch and Grounder are determined to prove themselves, although Scratch is more interested in proving himself. Regardless, the pair begin tracking Sonic, with Scratch pointing out that they should look for a trench created by a zooming Sonic, which Grounder promptly finds by driving into it. Using his conical arms to get out of the trench, Grounder begins following the bossy Scratch as they follow the trench. At the same time, Sonic and Tails are hiding behind a tree, observing the Badniks following the false trail left by Sonic to dupe anyone stupid enough to fall for it. Sonic then tells Tails to head back to Knothole (the reason of which can be chosen by the reader).

As Scratch and Grounder follow the trench to the edge of a cliff, the pair wonder if Sonic fell off the cliff on his own. However, Sonic ambushes the pair by using a Sonic Spin to cut off the edge of cliff, leaving Scratch and Grounder to fall off of it. While Grounder is able to produce parachutes to save himself, Scratch hits the ground hard. When Sonic tells the pair to go back to Robotnik in failure though, Grounder fires a cable from his conical arm that catches Sonic around his neck, allowing Scratch and Grounder to haul him down to the ground. As Sonic lands, Scratch claims that he will get all the glory for subduing Sonic from Robotnik. However, Grounder strongly disagrees with him, and the two of them quickly get into a fight with each other where they use all their armaments on themselves. Meanwhile, Sonic takes the cable off of his neck as he gets back on his feet, feeling that this is too easy before starting to circle around Scratch and Grounder at high speed.

When Sonic is done, Scratch and Grounder find themselves surrounded by a deep fissure created from Sonic's speed. Immediately after, the fissure caves in with Scratch and Grounder in it, leaving the Badniks buried and trapped. Immediately after, Grounder phone starts ringing, which Sonic answers. With Robotnik on the other end of the line, Sonic informs the doctor that his Badniks have been disconnected and to "have a nice day". Realizing that his Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad has failed, Robotnik screams out, "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!", as Sonic runs away.

Story Two[]

"Vertigo A' Go-Go"

The story begins with Sonic running about outside, singing to himself while collecting Power Ringss to help defeat Robotnik. Along the way, Sonic suddenly notices an odd cluster of Power Rings in front of him. Coming to a halt, curious at having never seen anything like this before, Sonic fails to notice that he is stopping on a Spring that sends him flying into the sky. Soon after, Sonic enters a hole in the sky and passes through a tubular tunnel. Arriving in the topsy-turvy Unknown Zone, Sonic emerges from the tube and slams horizontally into a surface. Recovering, Sonic gets shocked to see the natives of the Zone: the zone-imps Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al. Seeing those two standing on the floor and ceiling, Sonic realizes that he is standing on nothing and falls into another tunnel.

As the passage shifts around him, Sonic asks Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al for help as he falls, but the zone-imps remain amusingly casual. Eventually, Sonic emerges from the tunnel and slides to a halt on a ceiling upside down. Had enough, Sonic accuses Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al of being in league with Robotnik and threatens to tear their Zone apart. However, the pair claims to have never heard of him. Regardless, Sonic tries to use a Sonic Spin, only to spin out of control. As Sonic gets a solid grip on his orientation though, he comes to believe that the casual Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al are not Robotnik's lackeys, and he realizes that the Power Rings sent him into another Zone. As Horizont-Al notes the danger of playing with Power Rings, Sonic loses his grip again as his perspective shifts, with Verti-Cal noting the irony of it.

As Sonic begins literally falling out of the Unknown Zone, Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al bit Sonic farewell. As he falls, Sonic tries suggesting that Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al should join the Knothole Freedom Fighters with the powers they have, but the zone-imps remain casually indifferent to his offer. Immediately after, Sonic falls down from the sky and lands back in the Great Forest. There, Antoine finds Sonic, having been looking all over for him, and asks him "What's up". Furious, Sonic starts chasing after a bewildered Antoine, while Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al watch.

Short Stories[]

"In the Beginning!"

Sonic tells the reader about his prototype names before he was christened "Sonic" the Hedgehog, such as "Chronic" the Hedgehog, "Moronic" the Hedgehog, "Philharmonic" the Hedgehog, "Histronic" the Hedgehog, "Hydroponic" the Hedgehog, and "Stereophonic" the Hedgehog.

"Foiled Again!"

Sally and Boomer ask Sonic to sit down for a moment. They then smack him in the face with a sheet of tinfoil. They then use the impression on the foil to make "foil" comic book covers and ask if Sonic could let them make 74,999 more copies.

"Two-Timer!"

Sally asks Sonic if he could just wait a moment, but he tells her about all the things he could be doing while she cooks his "two-minute egg". Sally decides she doesn't want to cook for him anymore.

"All the Mail's about Tails!"

Several children around the world write to Sonic, suggesting reasons for why Tails has two tails. One child thinks Tails is a mutant, another child thinks he's a freak, and yet another thinks Tails was created in a lab, or maybe that one of his ancestors helped Charles Dickens write "A Tails of Two Cities". Tails decides that, whatever the reason for his two tails is, he should get his own miniseries.

Quotes[]

  • Tails: "Why that sassy little simian! C'mon, Sonic -- let's chase him!"
