Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 16 was the sixteenth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
Summary[]
Story One[]
- "Sonic Under Glass" - Part One
The Freedom Fighters take a group photo on the outskirts of Robotropolis to celebrate their final victory against Dr. Robotnik. Months later, Sonic and Sally get ready to be married. A jealous Antoine looks on as Sonic says to Sally, "If only Robotnik could see us now". It turns out Robotnik is watching them as holographic images in a small glass dome. He explains to his Badniks that he lured the Freedom Fighters into a trap, knocked them out with sleeping gas, and transported them to Robotropolis, keeping them in suspended animation and transferring their minds into a virtual reality chamber.
Crabmeat asks why they don't just eliminate them. Robotnik reveals that their minds are being used to power his demolition drones. Suddenly, events shift in the dome. Antoine's dreams override Sonic's; he switches places with him at the wedding and Sonic becomes a janitor. Reality shifts again, and they wind up in a Picasso like scene with a wooden backdrop and melted clocks. An unroboticized Uncle Chuck and Muttski arrive through a door with a wedding present for Sonic, telling him anything is possible in virtual reality.
- "Sonic Under Glass" - Part Two
Sonic tries to make sense of all the nonsensical shifting of the world and asks Uncle Chuck for some easy answers. Uncle Chuck gives him exactly what he asks for and, realizing the artificial nature of their world, Sonic takes advantage of the fact that he can make anything happen. He starts by making a monitor appear to see what is happening in the real world. Seeing that Mobius is in trouble, Sonic struggles with whether or not it's right to shatter his friends' artificial happiness and leave his uncle again.
The virtual Uncle Chuck assures him that he knows what he must do. Sonic manipulates the drones in the real world and sends them back towards Robotropolis, blackmailing Robotnik into releasing him and everyone else from the VR program. With Sonic and the Freedom Fighters awakened and outside the city, Robotnik vows that the war will be his and orders Uncle Chuck and Muttski to clean up the glass and liquid from the VR tubes. Sonic vows to rescue Uncle Chuck and Muttski someday.
Story Two[]
- "The Man from H.E.D.G.E.H.O.G."
Robotnik suspects that a spy is leaking information to the Freedom Fighters. He assigns Snively and Crabmeat to dig up the "mole". They bring him an actual mole, making him talk by shining a strong light in his face. Robotnik asks the mole "Who is the head of Secret Intellegence?" and the mole only says "Thats right!" Confounded by this, Robotnik resorts to setting up a "wheel of misfortune" and doing evil completely at random. The Freedom Fighters manage to show up and ruin his plans regardless, and taunting notes are left at the scene by the spy. Robotnik decides to set up a trap for Sonic and Sally in the Casino Night Zone.
Sonic faces off with an assassin SWATbot and falls into a trap hole. He wakes up strapped to Robotnik's wheel with several lasers pointed at him. As Robotnik prepares to annihilate Sonic, the lights go out. When the lights come back on, a Sonic-shaped hole has been carved on the wheel, Sonic himself is missing, and the wheel is revealed to have been concealing a camera all along. Later, Sonic and Sally are shown in the Secret Intellegence Headquarters, closing up business with the head of the agency, Harvey Who.
