Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 146 was the one hundred and forty-sixth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.

Story One[]

The Good, The Bad, & The Unknown - Part One: "Prototype"

Deep inside an abandoned facility, Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog are locked in heated battle. Thinking on his feet, Sonic turns a nearby valve and blasts Shadow with a surge of water. As Shadow regains his composure, he finds that Sonic has escaped. Hearing the other Freedom Fighters approaching, he retreats deeper into the ruined building.

As Shadow heads deeper into the complex, he comes across his robotic cohort, Isaac. Isaac asks Shadow why he didn't continue chasing Sonic. Shadow explains that he's been tormented by memories of his past and recaps recent events: ever since his encounter with Hope and confirmation that she was not Maria Robotnik, he had been mulling over his thoughts on Angel Island. Sensing a distress signal similar to the one Gerald Robotnik sent out before GUN's attack on the Space Colony ARK, he made his way to the mountains of western Northamer and accidentally set off the facility's defense systems, causing a massive explosion. Making his way inside, Shadow found Isaac in stasis. Shadow reactivates Isaac, who explains that he was created by Professor Clarke and Dr. Niven. Shadow hooked Isaac into a larger computer and accessed his files, learning that Isaac was created by Overlanders over 10,000 years ago.

Meanwhile, Fiona and Rotor come across an injured Sonic. Rotor calls Bunnie and requests that she retrieve their medical supplies. Bunnie heads back, leaving Tails and Tommy Turtle alone without a way to contact the others. Sonic explains that he ran into Shadow while exploring the area. Rotor decides that it's possible that Shadow isn't even a Mobian. As Bunnie flies back with the supplies, a Bat Brain on patrol records her flight path and sends the information back to Dr. Eggman. Eggman, thinking something important must be happening and wanting to either take out Sonic and his friends or squash any threats to his empire, gets to work on creating his very own Metal Sonic.

Story Two[]

Tommy the Turtle in "Out of Your Shell"

One morning in Knothole, Rotor tries to wake up Tommy Turtle. Thinking Tommy is ignoring him, Rotor pulls the sheets off Tommy's bed to find Tommy with his head stuck in his shell. With a busy day ahead of him, Rotor heads out and leaves Tommy behind. Later that day, Tommy sheepishly confronts Rotor, explaining that he feels neglected by his friends. Rotor tries to encourage him and suggests trying to find a skill that he excels at. He then brushes Tommy off, trying to find his files on the Technolotree. Tommy explains that he already sorted all the files and suggests a way to fix the tree. Impressed, Rotor offers to have Tommy as his lab assistant -- provided that he cleans up the lab.

Story Three[]

"Circuit Me" Staring Sally & NICOLE

Rotor is working on a Power Ring in his lab and explains to Sally that he needs NICOLE's help to determine the dangers of using the rings as a power supply. Sally begins to ask NICOLE for her assistance when she trips over a cord. NICOLE and Sally are drenched by mysterious blue liquid resting in one of the beakers in Rotor's lab. Rotor rushes to their aid only to realize that they somehow switched bodies. Rotor asks Sally to scan the liquid, but Sally gets a headache from the information overload. Rotor then turns to NICOLE for assistance, but finds that she's gone.

Meanwhile, NICOLE walks around Knothole in Sally's body, overwhelmed by her senses and the stirring of love when she spots Sonic. As she feels Sally's affection and heartache, NICOLE faints. Rotor arrives as Sally and NICOLE's minds return to their original bodies, the effects of the liquid wearing off. Sonic is confused, but NICOLE brushes it off as just being a long story.

Bonus Features[]

Gag Strips[]

Off Panel

Sonic begins to tell the editor that fans don't like him interrupting, but he interrupts with a plug for old issues. Sonic tries again, saying fans complain he abuses Sonic-Grams to promote the comic. The editor interrupts yet again with more promotional slogans. Sonic tries to explain the "issue"; the editor talks about issue #150. Sonic decides to give him a "shameless plug" and shoves his mouth full of paper. Written by Michael Gallagher, Pencils by Dave Manak, Colors by the Archie Art Department under the pen name "Eugene Delacrow".

  • Sonic: "Bottom line -- that sucker can throw a punch!"
  • Rotor: "Shadow may look like a hedgehog -- but I don't believe for a second he's related to you in any way! In fact, I'm not even sure he's a Mobian like us!"

  • Sonic: "What effects? What is going on?"
  • NICOLE: "Suffice it to say, it is a long story. Anyone ever tell you you're a very appealing hedgehog?"
