Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 119 was the one hundred and nineteenth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
Summary[]
Story One[]
- "Cater-Killer's Coming!" - Part One
In the dark of night, Sonic runs to Furville and warns its citizens to evacuate he town. The citizens are skeptical but quickly scatter when they feel the earth quaking beneath their feet and see a robot headed towards them on the horizon. Sonic, having cleared the area, runs ahead to take on the Caterkiller.
- "Cater-Killer's Coming!" - Part Two
Sonic reaches the Caterkiller Train and notices the giant robot is barreling ahead at over 100 miles per hour. He tries to use a Triple Sonic Spin on the robot, but finds himself unable to break through its sturdy frame. Sonic chases the locomotive menace when a hologram of Dr. Eggman is projected from one of its segments. Eggman taunts Sonic, telling him that Caterkiller will destroy Knothole next. Just as Sonic begins to worry about his friends in the village, Tails arrives on the Tornado and gives Sonic a lift.
- "Cater-Killer's Coming!" - Part Three
Sonic asks Tails if he's figured anything out about the Caterkiller. Tails reveals that it runs on simple software and, if they can get inside, they can easily hack it. They jump off the Tornado and, by vibrating at super sonic speeds, Sonic phases himself and Tails through the Caterkiller's outer shell. Exhausted by the physical strain, Sonic is left to lay exhausted on the floor while Tails hacks the Caterkiller's systems.
- "Cater-Killer's Coming!" - Conclusion
Tails flies Sonic out of the Caterkiller as it heads over a cliff and into the ocean below. Sonic tries to make a joke about it, but Tails doesn't understand what he means. Sonic decides to drop it as they head home.
Story Two[]
- "Dust Bunnie"
Bunnie is flying through the sky above Sand Blast City, heading for a distress signal in the area, when she finds herself shot by an explosive weapon. She falls through a hole in the city's force field and is knocked unconscious. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a small cell with a glass wall. Bunnie tries to break the wall down, but it only cracks slightly when she punches it.
On the other side of the glass, Jack Rabbit mocks her, explaining that his crew sent out a fake SOS to lure Sonic to Sand Blast City. Jack tells her that he wanted to get revenge on Sonic, but he'll enjoy taking his frustration out on her instead. Bunnie asks what he's planning, and Jack reveals that he's going to release a swarm of Robians in her cell. Bunnie argues with Jack about Sonic's intentions when he left Sand Blast City, but Jack doesn't care and leaves her to be torn apart by the Robians.
Outside, Jack is telling his fellow Sand-Blasters that Sonic will probably come looking for his missing friend before long when Bunnie bursts out of her cell, having fought off the Robians. The Robians start to chase after Jack and his friends while Bunnie flies home.
Story Three[]
- "Time Code" Starring Rotor + Nicole
NICOLE tries to convince Rotor that he'll never be able to access her hard drive, but Rotor argues that he's prepared, having upgraded his equipment. She argues that there's no use in trying to figure out where she came from, but Rotor is persistent. He tells her that there's nothing he loves more than solving puzzles and warns her that he's going to try and hack her systems. She asks him to go easy on her.
NICOLE refuses to answer anything she's asked, blowing a raspberry at Rotor after he tries to just beg for an answer. Rotor decides to give up for now and asks if she's happy, but NICOLE retorts that Rotor would be. She silently thinks back to her creation, where her world's Rotor tells Queen Sally and King Sonic about her and how she'll be impervious from hackers from the past. NICOLE asks Rotor to take her back to Castle Acorn, but Rotor says it'll have to wait: her programming has inspired him to fix his own security systems.
Later, on the other side of the planet, Dr. Eggman finds himself unable to hack into Rotor's computer. Every time he tries, the system replies by blowing a raspberry at him.
Bonus Features[]
Gag Strips[]
Sonic looks over a list and decides that, since they've made fun of everyone else, it's time to make fun of the comic's writers. The editor fearfully alerts Sonic to a giant flyswatter in the sky headed right for them. Sonic runs as fast as he can, but is squashed by the swatter. The editor tells Sonic that you should never bite the hand that "speeds" you.
Quotes[]
- Sonic: "...Still, whatever you did, sure sent Caterkiller over the 'deep' end!"
- Tails: "The deep end? I don't get it, Sonic..."
- Sonic: "Y'know, the deep end? Like how you rewired its 'brain' sorta making it go crazy an everything? And how you made it plunge off a cliff into the ocean instead of Knothole?"
- Tails: "Hm. I still don't--"
- Sonic: "Awww, forget it..."
- Rotor: "Where did you come from?"
- NICOLE: "Not gonna happen."
- Rotor: "Who designed you?"
- NICOLE: "Sorry, try again."
- Rotor: "Awwww...come on, NICOLE."
- NICOLE: ":P"
- Dr. Eggman: "I hate that walrus!"
Key Events[]
- Eggman attempts to destroy Knothole with the new Caterkiller model.
- Sonic and Tails rewire the Caterkiller to fall into the ocean.
- Jack Rabbit attempts to hold Bunnie hostage in order to lure Sonic into a trap, but Bunnie breaks free.
- Rotor attempts to hack in to NICOLE's database to find out where she came from, with no luck. This, however, inspires Rotor to update his computer database.
Background Information[]
- Caterkiller's new design was first featured in the sketchbook featured in STH: 115 under a spoiler tag.
- This issue's third story marks the fourth and final appearance of the alternate future Mobius, first seen in the Sonic In Your Face special. It had also been previously seen in Sonic the Hedgehog #22 and Sonic the Hedgehog #75. The latter issue established that Robo-Robotnik nuked Mobotropolis and killed the Royal Family, and its appearance in this issue is simply a re-telling of the creation of NICOLE, first depicted in Sonic In Your Face.
Cameos & References[]
- Caterkiller's demise is somewhat similar to the final worm monster's in the movie Tremors.
- On Rotor's hard-drive, there is a magazine with Archie character Jughead on it and a piece of paper with "SPAZ is the Sonic god!", refering to the artist SPAZ of the Sonic comics. A similar bit of paper is shown later with "Spaz Rocks!" instead.
- On one of Rotor's techno equipment, it reads "Cybertron 1984", a reference to Transformers and the year it was created.
- Also included on Rotor's desk are random letters promoting Archie comics.
