Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 101 was the one hundred and first issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
Summary[]
Story One[]
- "Altered States"
Sonic realizes that Nate is still inside Robotropolis as the city's force field starts to activate. He tries to return to the city, but runs into the force field instead. Tails helps him up and suddenly they are in a desert area, fighting a large robot known as Metal Robotnik. Elsewhere, Dr. Robotnik watches the fight. Robotnik is confident that Metal Robotnik will send Sonic and Tails back to the Land of the Sky, leaving him free to marry Princess Sara, whom he has captured. Sonic runs a trench around Metal Robotnik and escapes with Tails to rescue Princess Sara. The robot flies after them and takes aim, but is quickly destroyed by Knuckles, who punches his way straight through it. Suddenly, a group of Metal Robotniks surrounds Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
Sonic's surroundings change again to Castle Acorn, where the royal family, including an able-bodied King Max, is welcoming Locke and Knuckles in honor of the seventh year of their alliance with the Echidnas. He knights Knuckles and announces that that he will soon be his son-in-law. Sonic runs off, and Tails starts to follow when his parents pull him aside for a talk. Sonic thinks about how Knuckles has been close to Sally ever since he and his father brought Queen Alicia and Elias to Castle Acorn one day. He rushes to Uncle Chuck's chili dog diner and asks him why he resigned from his royal post. Chuck tells him that, after Julian Kintobor roboticized Sonic's father, he felt too ashamed to continue his work. Sonic reminds Chuck that Amadeus Prower stopped Julian's coup and Knuckles' father returned the Queen and Prince home, telling him he can't help but feel left out.
The diner changes to a rooftop, where Dr. Robotnik and a horde of SWATbots have cornered Sally and Sonic. Sonic pretends to surrender and they leap off the building, landing in the Freedom Fighter Special. Sally tells Sonic that everything seems wrong, telling him about a dream where she was engaged to Knuckles. Sonic tries to comfort her when the aircraft transforms into Sonic's room. Sonic holds a picture of Sally and begins to cry when his parents tell him his friends are waiting for him. The Freedom Fighters arrive at Sally's grave and mourn her passing.
Suddenly, Sonic remembers that Sally didn't die, and that he was escaping Robotropolis and Nate had gone missing. The world returns to normal and everyone mentions how they feel like they've been dreaming. The group wonders if Robotnik is behind the reality warping problem, when suddenly Nate appears. Sonic realizes Nate was left back in Robotropolis, and that reality still hasn't settled back into its natural form. Nate turns into Chuck, continuing Nate's theory that something other than Robotnik is behind the shifts. Tails asks what they should do about Nate; Sonic realizes that the only thing they can do is lead the Robains to safety, and that there's nothing they can do to take back Nate's sacrifice.
Story Two[]
- "Reboot"'
Julie-Su is angry at Knuckles for siding with the Dark Legion. Knuckles tries to explain and reveals that he can read minds. He tells her that he heard the thoughts of Tobor just before he died, and that all he could feel was anger. Knuckles reasons that the Legion and the echidnas of Echidnaopolis have been trying so hard to defeat each other that it's impossible to ever have peace. Knuckles asks Dimitri about how he can use his powers, but Dimitri simply tells him that Knuckles can do anything he wishes so long as he concentrates.
Knuckles travels back in time to the outskirts of Echidnaopolis just before the White Comet struck the planet. He destroys the comet, which stops his ancestors from ever creating the Floating Island. However, a sudden earthquake destroys the city and Knuckles is thrown back into the present. Dimitri reveals that he never attempted time travel due to the infinite number of possible outcomes. Knuckles calls him a coward, but Dimitri counters that he knows far more than Knuckles ever will. He tells Knuckles that he can only think of three points in history where they could safely change the past and demands that Knuckles listens to what he has to say.
