Summary[]

Story One[]

Lost Paradise: Part Three of Three - "Zero Hour...and Counting"

The Chaotix wonder what's taking Knuckles so long when another quake rocks the Floating Island. Meanwhile, Knuckles is teleported by Archimedes into the middle of the dingo hostage situation, where his mother, Lara-Le, is being held against her will by dingo officers. He waits for them to draw close and strikes, an older man giving him a hand. Lara-Le embraces her son while Archimedes warns them that more dingoes heading their way.

Meanwhile, Remington, Julie-Su and the Echidna Security Team are given orders to head back to base, but are shocked to find Knuckles, Lara-Le, and the helpful older man waiting for them in the van. Hawking notices another disturbance when Deo Volente appears to him. They are unsure who is truly causing the disturbances and Hawking theorizes that he needs to contact Haven. He manages to get through to Locke, who tells him that the disturbance originated in Robotropolis when all reality in the Prime Zone was obliterated for a billionth of a second. He deduces that the appearance of the Dark Legion and the quakes in the Marble Zone were signs of the incoming disaster: the echidna and dingo zones are trying to return to the Prime Zone in the same place in Echidnaopolis and one will likely destroy the other.

Knuckles and the others head back to the Security Team headquarters, readying themselves to regroup and make another attempt to rescue the hostages. While Constable Remington deals with other matters, Lara-Le explains to Knuckles that she wishes she had been able to raise him like a normal son. Remington, having received word from Hawking, begins to explain a plan of action when another quake sends the echidnas and dingoes between zones again. General Von Stryker decides that he needs to bring the Guardian out of hiding and orders Commander Rat to use their echidna hostages as bait. Rat threatens to kill them all, faking them out to watch them squirm, when Knuckles and Julie-Su appear and attack the dingo soldiers.

With the troops taken care of, one of the hostages directs them towards Stryker at Knuckles' request. Realizing that he must act, Hawking has Deo relay to Archimedes that the citizens need to be evacuated. He tries to warn Knuckles, but Julie-Su convinces him to go after Stryker instead. Von Stryker prepares for battle, donning his Power Glove, as Knuckles and the others arrive. Knuckles tries to convince him to evacuate his troops, but Stryker is certain that Knuckles has come to antagonize his people and attacks. Knuckles and Julie-Su hold him off while the rest of the echidnas and dingoes head out of the building to safety. After a fierce skirmish, Knuckles convinces Stryker to call a temporary truce. Meanwhile, Hawking activates his Hyper Zone Projector one last time.

The echidnas, dingoes, and Knuckles' group all end up in the same bunker due to the effects of the zone projector. Remington and Stryker prepare to fight but Knuckles breaks them up, suggesting they see what's happened. As everyone emerges from the bunker, they find Echidnaopolis still standing, although part of it has changed in structure drastically. Spying Catweazle overhead, Knuckles realizes they must still be on the Floating Island and heads to Hawking's inner sanctum with Archimedes. They find the place in ruins and meet with Deo Volente, who explains that he could not save Hawking. However, the old man left a gift for Knuckles: the hat that he wore during his tenure as Guardian.
