Summary[]

Story One[]

The Forbidden Zone: Part One of Three - "Whatever Happened to Queen Alicia?"

Day One of the Royal Secret Service's mission to the Floating Island: Antoine flies Geoffrey St. John and his team to the island amidst a raging storm, reminding them that they only have three days before the island is out of Mobotropolis' flight range. If they don't make it to their rendezvous point by then, he warns them, they'll be stranded for months. The group parachutes to out of the plane and is surprised to see the thunderstorm turns into a snowstorm before their eyes. Valdez spots the Sandopolis ruins nearby and uses them as a landmark, allowing the group to plot their course to the Royal Compound.

In Haven, Sabre offers to take over monitoring duties for his son, but Locke informs his father that members of King Acorn's guard have arrived on the island. Locke matches Geoffrey with his files on Ian St. John. Sabre points out that Ian is long dead and worries that the Overlanders will believe they have gone back on their word if they spot Acorn's men on the island.

Locke argues that this may be for the best, reflecting on the words of Semper Fidelis, who believed the Brotherhood had become too interested in echidna self-preservation. He goes on to point out that Knuckles may be the only Guardian to ever concern himself with the safety of the whole Floating Island, but is interrupted by an emergency signal coming from an Echidna Security Team aircraft that landed near their base. Locke sees Lara-Le come out of the craft and heads out to find her. Sabre decides to contact Constable Remington about the situation while his son is out.

Julie-Su and Knuckles walk through Echidnaopolis as the snowstorm envelops the city. While heading for Lara-Le's apartment they find a woman half-buried in the snow, crying for her child. Julie-Su runs to call an ambulance while Knuckles speaks with her, learning that her baby is back in her apartment. Knuckles heads over, finding the baby alone in its crib. Meanwhile, Remington visits Wynmacher, informing him that Lara-Le has crashed her hovercraft. He asks Wynmacher if he wishes to accompany him on the rescue mission; Wyn hurries back inside to get ready.

The Royal Secret Service struggles through the snow, noticing a building up ahead. Geoffrey orders Heavy and Bomb to come with him to scope it out. Locke lands his craft near Lara-Le's and finds her freezing inside. He manages to wake her up and they immediately begin to argue. In the apartment, Knuckles hands the baby over to an EST officer. Following the officer's instructions, Knuckles and Julie-Su head into the transport with Remington and Wynmacher. As they head for the hoverport, Knuckles and Julie-su are informed that Lara-Le went missing while flying to the Forbidden Zone. Knuckles demands to know why she would go there. Remington eventually relents, explaining that she went to see Locke.

In Haven, "Tobor" heads to the monitoring room to ask Locke to take a breather. Sabre reveals that he's taken over Locke's duties at the moment, as his son left to meet with his ex-wife. Moritori Rex curses his luck, fearing he may have to take drastic action to keep his identity a secret. Meanwhile, the Secret Service reaches the Royal Compound, which Geoffrey recognizes from a trip with his father. He climbs through the window, startling Mrs. Sommersby. The rest of the team climbs through while Colonel Sommersby arrives to investigate the commotion. Geoffrey greets them, telling the couple that he is Ian St. John's son. He explains that King Acorn sent his team to find out what happened to Queen Alicia. A mysterious boy appears, having overheard Geoffrey mentioning his mother.
